Solid Surface materials

Generally solid surfaces are classified into two groups - acrylic bounded and polyester bounded materials. Both groups possess different attributes due to their basic materials and are appropriate for different areas of application. As a European's leader in the processing of solid surface materials, Hasenkopf manufactures besides a wide range of other premium materials particularly CORIAN© produced by the market leader DuPont. If requested, we process HI-MACS© by LG, Staron by Samsung or other materials made by other producers as well.

Acrylic bounded solid surfaces

Acrylic bounded solid surfaces consist of around one third acrylic resin (also known as polymethylmetacrylate or PMMA) and two-thirds natural minerals, primarily aluminium hydroxide (ATH) obtained from bauxite (aluminum ore). This materials enable the manufacturing of worktops, washtops, washbasins, showers, bathtubs, wall claddings, fronts and furniture. Supplier of acrylic bounded solid surface materials are for example DuPont (Corian), LG (Hi-Macs), Samsung (Staron), Aristech Surfaces LLC (AVONITE), Porcelanosa Group (KRION) or Westag Getalit (Getacore).

Characteristics and fields of application

The homogenously through-coloured material can be produced by transparent acrylic. Moreover acrylic guarantees the lightfastness of the material and is the reason for the characteristical haptics of these solid surfaces. The smooth surface is heater than pure stone.

Acrylic allows thermal forming and smooth and seamless bonding. With our know-how and our modern machine park we are able to manufacture complexe shapes, also if only one piece is required.

Some colours of the acrylic bounded solid surface materials are amenable to backlighting and feature many new designing options.

This outstanding material properties combined with sophisticated processing techniques fulfill the most demanding requirements of aesthetics and functionality.

Acrylic bounded materials are used in bathrooms, kitchens, shop-fittings and interior designs as well as for fronts. The imporous surface and seamless bonding make it suitable for particularly hygienic and easy-care areas for instance in the healthcare.

Polyester bounded mineral materials

In contrast to acrylic bounded mineral materials polyester bounded mineral materials consist of aluminium hydroxide (ATH) and polyester resin. Supplier of this materials are for example Noblan^®, Varicor^® or Marlan^®.

Characteristics and fields of application

Regarding the mechanical processing there are only small differences in contrast to acrylic bounded solid surface. They are restricted thermally formable. Adding UV stabilisers lightfastness can be achieved. The fields of appliaction are basically interior.
