Prof. Dr. Dr. E.h. Dr. h.c. Werner Sobek is an architect, consulting engineer, inspection engineer for structural engineering of all disciplines. Werner Sobek heads the Institute for Lightweight Structures and Conceptual Design (ILEK) at the University of Stuttgart. He was a professor at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago from 2007 to 2013, member of the Presidium of the German Sustainable Building Council DGNB (president 2008–2010). The Werner Sobek group represents engineering, design and sustainability. With offices in Stuttgart, Dubai, Frankfurt, Istanbul, London, Moscow, New York and São Paulo. The focus lies on high-class design based on outstanding engineering combined with sophisticated concepts for the minimization of energy and material consumption. Founded in 1992, the company has more than 200 employees and handles all types of buildings and materials. Special emphasis is placed on building construction and façade planning as well as sustainability consulting. The company cooperates with leading architects such as Norman Foster, Helmut Jahn, Christoph Ingenhoven, Rem Koolhaas or Dominique Perrault.
