Bar for Engel with a number of extras

There are many possible methods of giving an item of furniture that certain something. A Corian bar with a number of extras was created for the Austrian manufacturer of injection moulding machines as a result of the skilful interplay of the material, colour and shape.

The re-designed lobby should be dynamic, futuristic, stylish and functional at the same time. To this end, Franz Polzhofer has installed furniture which optimally meets these requirements. At the centre, there is a bar made from Corian, where the waiting visitors can be served drinks and snacks. 

Complex shape with technical features

In order to make the large, heavy element appear light and dynamic, the design simulated a visually detached work level, which was implemented by Hasenkopf with a shadow gap all around. This makes the white cover appear to float “weightlessly” above the silver-grey body. “The biggest hurdles were the complex process of moulding the furniture, as well as the design requirements imposed by us. On the other hand, the functions and technical components desired by the client had to be included,” explains project manager Stephan Tomasi.

Complete furniture with all the details

The special features include drinks coolers, garbage disposal and a fruit bowl which is visible as a curved depression in the white cover. The various surface colours provide information about the respective functions. The bar is delivered ready-to-install by Hasenkopf, including all the details such as an inspection opening, a revolving door or three drawers made from solid oak wood. Franz Polzhofer emphasises: »Hasenkopf Industrie Manufaktur has been able to solve all the technical challenges to our complete satisfaction, without making sacrifices at a design level«.
